Spirit of St.Louis (SOSL) - this is a wonderful brand, and due to its styling (mostly under twenty to thirty years), and because of the history. The logo, available in almost every product of the company, shows the plane with the same name, in which Charles Lindbergh made the first nonstop flight across the Atlantic. He flew from New York, May 20, 1927 on board the single-engine monoplane, and landed in Paris on 21 May. Dashboard aircraft started a legend. In her sketch, but with the addition of new levers, buttons, today released high-tech radio and CD-player. In addition, SOSL produces many more all things, mostly, "as if for travelers": folding (and easy) alarm clocks, compasses, different combinations of compasses and watches, hiking kits with flasks, shakers and glasses, hiking kits games (backgammon, chess, checkers, cards, etc.), table clocks with various symbols of the immortal flight (and there's even a clock with a figure of Lindberg's full-length or, for example, in the form of screws his plane), is in the range of even a humidor for cigars and much, much more. The style of these things I just leads to thrill! Such things would be all living statutes, along with retro furniture.

A flight was FANTASTIC! First, Lindbergh flew nonstop on a small monoplane. As a result, he had to turn to the fuel tank all the nose of the aircraft, so the pilot is a kind of "inside" the tank. Second, he had to reduce the weight, remove all the navigation equipment. He flew on the eyes! Across the Atlantic! Third, he was flying alone, without a partner and without any support. Had that - and skiff. He declined to parachute from the radio, replaced heavy braided leather seat, custom-made lightweight boots and even cut the card, leaving only necessary for a particular part of the course. All pilots in such a serious flight multiengine samlety prefer to have a reserve in case of failure of any of the engines. Lindbergh flew to the single-engine. I do not understand how he is this "toy" this is cranked.

Here dialogue Lindbergh and his plane design, reproduced in a Hollywood movie based on the book Lindbergh's "Spirit of St. Louis."

- How about the radio?
- Radio decided not to take.
- All take the radio.
- All large aircraft, and we have little.
- Oh Kay. Where to install the sextant?
- Nowhere. What's the point? You can not simultaneously operate a sextant and fly a plane.
- No sextant? And how will you determine the direction?
- The compass. I will take the exact direction to depart from New York and will be checking every hundred miles.
- And the water?
- I will determine the direction of the waves of the wind.
- I hope the rest will take the Lord.
- Lord, I do not bother. Take everything for themselves.

Incidentally, this film to the thirtieth trip took Billy Wilder, author of super popular "Some Like It Hot" ("Some Like It Hot.")

Without rest or sleep aviator flew 27 hours over the ocean. When Lindbergh landed at Le Bourget, where it was waiting for the crowd - the plane is seen over Ireland, and then saw it here and there, reporting on progress. Long before landing near the airfield crowd, limited barriers, but, seeing the Spirit of St.Louis, she just swept away all the barriers and rushed to the hero.

By the way, the name of the aircraft was given several industrialists, of St. Louis, which funded the Lindbergh flight, and after the grand success of the action organized by the brand that exists to this day.

So, having a cigarette lighter in the collection, even modern production feel a "smell of aviation history" (and, in the literal sense, too, considering the smell of fuel, if the lighter gasoline).

In the above image - a wonderful copy of the "lift-arm!"

But my naborchik: duo of lighters and ashtrays. Ashtray in constant (as seen in

picture), lighter - from time to time.

Ah, I love the flea market! There's no pity, and spend $ 5 for a good thing! :)

Today for $ 4 bought table and pocket lighters Soviet:

Both - stamped "PMZ". I suspect that this Pavlovsky Machine Works, located in St. Petersburg. Although he could be and Podolsky Mechanical Plant, and the Perm Engine Company. When the Soviet Union's how it was, certain consumer goods factory makes 10 percent of its capacity, and the remaining 90 - some optical guidance system for the tanks.

The black - the mechanism of a full copy of the Austrian Imco.

The one clear - generally a wonderful miracle! This is a copy of the American Scripto, serialized in 60 years! I did not immediately realize that it is the Soviet lighter, a bit too solidly done! But then he saw the stamp "PMZ" and unusual for the U.S. figure, I realized that this is our lighter :) Regarding the picture: in the script is almost always inserted, or a drawing, or advertising. "What we are worse than the Americans?" - Apparently thought to KB PMZ, and set up a transparent slaydik a photo of the monument to Peter the Great in St. Petersburg.

Made very soundly. But in contrast to the Scripto , the soviet no windbreaks.

Also met 3 "Copanca" WWII. For 25 bucks apiece. First oochen cute!

And, of course, where do without Chinese! Chinese people a lot, and good should be a lot lighter! Two large-quasi-Zippo:

And finally took the $ 2 bonus - Indians set in a box. 2 p. 20 kopecks., Moscow plant toys "Progress" :)

We have this market is called "Field of Dreams." Today, once again convinced why :)

Theoretically - gas lighter 60s can act up with high probability. Indeed, gas lighters must be kept in the body high blood pressure. Need sealed. Rubber. Which will eventually crack.

Here tucking gasoline script - it will become clear how a 40-year-old lighters remained sealed screw-cap with a rubber gasket on the bottom.

Check Script. Flowing. Rubber cracked. I think that can be repaired by cutting a similar seal of rubber. As ever talk about it in more detail.

Sorry for the dumb question for God's sake! Although it was published a long time, yet could not help but ask, in the photo Scripto VU-lighter, USA, ~ 1960 dice were originally there, or you have them put in there? In general, they really get it? Lighter looks very interesting!

Once again I apologize for the stupid question!

PS market "field of dreams" - very cool market!)

ehhh, sorry that is leaking, but in any case, the gasket can be replaced by a home-made. In the same way Thorens benzip just filled without any wool like, let's see what will happen with me, but I think there will be nothing to flow

yours_truly, the question is fine :) Thanks to the Scripto in transparent plastic shell, its manufacturer would be no sin there :) So shove something inside was either advertising a particular product, or just a picture (hunter with a gun, Crown, the head legionary in a helmet ...) or an object: cubes, dice, airplane, fish hook with the bait-front sight ... Here in this - the dice. Get through the openings in fueling unrealistic - they prolezut, because it had been placed in the body in the process. Coming soon to review this original lighters - Scripto VU-lighter. :)

Palladium-Joker, leakage of the scripts - not so bad. She has problems with the ignition fuse. Ignited by 15-20 times only when abundantly moistened. Well take almost 50 years, sparking :)
