And so, a short story about the purchase of my first, and hopefully not the last zippo:

Ever since childhood, after the screening of films zabugornyh, I dreamed of having a zippo, but in our small town never had them, and if sometimes appearing and cost too much for a simple student. Years passed, and one day walking across the expanses of the network, I came across on ebay cherished by lighters. Cost them at auction, as you know, is much smaller than in our stores, and I decided to make a gift. The choice fell on low gloss silver in '97, cost $ 10. Carefully examining the photos and reading the manual on your site, I came to the conclusion that lighter authentic. Next on the list: ordered, waited, the mother of our mail, 44 days to cancel the transaction, and on day 46 received a treasured gift!

Lighter was again closely inspected for authenticity - real, anyway, this is my conclusion on your manuals. The hull was quite a bit shabby, but the insert was even not overwritten, and sanded in the middle so that the inscription reads with difficulty. When you open the cherished gizmos I was disappointed - the patented click nebilo. (   but after some manipulation screwdriver voice returned to the lighter.) Just have zippo was quite shaken loop.   Search for the original fuel is not allowed me my impatience, and was purchased by the first available 130ml vial for 30 rubles (Ryazan Refinery, packer "Iskra", Moscow, this fuel seems already discussed here).   First filling enough for 2 days   flame quite good, a little captopril, but it was only visible when the lid is closed (if close slowly, then the outer side were "traces of fire"), the smell of gasoline was also present, but not very strong (or I was too happy and not grok). After the first exhalation gasoline pursed loop as a result of the backlash has almost disappeared and the next refill lasted 3 days =). Later, after the "accident" (father blew very strongly on the wick and it became a broom)), it was decided to tighten and trim the wick. Just because it has not been possible to draw, and I decided to pull the insert out of wool, and push the wick inside. Here I was waiting for a surprise - the wick was crumpled (!) And just pressed wool to the top of the insert .... Everything was fixed, tightened, and trimmed the next refueling my zippo held for 6 days with regular use. I think if you use a high quality fuel, the result will be higher ...

And finally my general opinion about zippo: I think, first of all, it's a cult thing. Windscreens works with a bang even with a good wind, but the flame is large enough and "uncontrollable" as a result of singed his mustache =), some other flavor of the cigarette prikurennyh from zippo I felt, though perhaps I smoke cheap cigarettes too =).   But not looking at it, I'll use the zippo, partly because it was my childhood dream, partly because keeping this lighter feel in the hands of the story.

Small digression: I got lighter on May 4 this day - 2 year anniversary of my relationship with the girl, and taking the lighter-mail, we had gone to the lake where he first kissed. There I made her an offer of marriage and she said yes! So this Zippo for me at all especially now. =)

ps let the moderator correct me, if not in that branch.

The story is very interesting. But I would put in your place this lighter on the shelf, once you have it, let such a landmark stands as a memory of the event, it is worth it. And for every day buy any more, she still you will not last, there is some reason such confidence.

oniks1, it was the first refueling after hiking up the wick, and the flame was adjusted between 2 and 3 cm ... =)

that's why it on the shelf I do not want to put it ... maybe later when the collection expanded, acquiring cares, chores and children ... =) Now I think to do the engraving, in memory of the event ...
