Spirit of St.Louis (SOSL) - this is a wonderful brand, and due to its styling (mostly under twenty to thirty years), and because of the history. The logo, available in almost every product of the company, is depicted plane of the same name, in which Charles Lindbergh made the first nonstop flight across the Atlantic. He flew from New York May 20, 1927 aboard a single-engine monoplane and landed in Paris on 21 May. The instrument panel of the aircraft started a legend. In her sketch, but with the addition of new levers, buttons, today released high-tech radios and CD-Players. In addition, SOSL produces even all sorts of things, mostly, "as if travelers": folding (and easy) alarm clocks, compasses, compasses, and various combinations of hours hiking kits with flasks, shakers and cups, hiking kits games (backgammon, chess, checkers, cards, etc.), desktop clock with a variety of symbols of the immortal flight (and there's even a clock with a figure of Lindberg's full-length or, for example, in the form of screws his plane), is in the range of even a humidor for cigars and much, much more. The style of these things lead me just in awe! All these things would be living the Charter, along with retro furniture.

A flight was FANTASTIC! Firstly, Lindbergh flew non-stop on a small monoplane. As a result, he had to turn to the fuel tank all the nose of the aircraft so that the pilot was a kind of "inside" of the fuel tank. Secondly, he had to reduce the weight, remove all the navigation equipment. He flew on the eyes! Across the Atlantic! Third, he was flying alone, without a partner and without any support. Happened - and the skiff. He refused to parachute from the radio, replaced the heavy woven leather seat, made to order light boots and even cut the card, leaving only necessary for a particular part of the course. All pilots in such complicated flights multiengine samlety prefer to have a reserve in case of failure of any of the engines. Lindbergh flew single-engine. I do not understand how he is this "toy" it all cranked up.

That dialogue Lindbergh and designer of his plane, reproduced in a Hollywood movie based on the book Lindbergh's "Spirit of St. Louis".

- What about the radio?
- Radio decided not to take.
- Everyone takes the radio.
- All large aircraft, and we have little.
- Okay. Where to install a sextant?
- Nowhere. What's the point? You can not simultaneously operate the sextant and fly a plane.
- None of the sextant? And how will you determine the direction?
- According to the compass. I will take the exact direction to depart from New York and will be checking every hundred miles.
- And over the water?
- I would define the waves wind direction.
- Hopefully, the rest will take the Lord.
- Lord, I do not bother. Take everything on yourself.

Incidentally, this film to the thirtieth trip took Billy Wilder, the author of super popular "Some Like It Hot" ("Some Like It Hot.")

Without rest and sleep aviator flew 27 hours over the ocean. When Lindbergh landed at Le Bourget, where it was waiting for the crowd - noticed another plane over Ireland, and then saw it here and there, reporting on progress. Long before landing near the airfield crowd bounded obstacles, but the sight of Spirit of St.Louis, she simply swept away all barriers and rushed to the hero.

By the way, the name of the aircraft was given several industrialists from St. Louis, who funded the Lindbergh flight, and after the great success of the action organized by the brand that exists to this day.

So, having a cigarette lighter in the collection, even modern production, you feel a certain "smell of aviation history" (and, in the literal sense, too, considering the smell of fuel, if the lighter gasoline).

In the above photos - a wonderful copy of the "lift-arm!"

But my naborchik duo of lighters and ashtrays. Ashtray use constantly (as seen in

picture), a lighter - from time to time.

Oh, I love the flea market! There is not a pity to spend and 5 bucks for a good thing! :)

Today for $ 4 bought desktop and pocket lighters Soviet:

Both - stamped "PMZ". I suspect that this Pavlovsky Machine Works, located in St. Petersburg. Although he could be and Podolsky mechanical plant, and PMZ. When the Soviet Union's how it was, makes the plant a certain consumer goods to 10 per cent of its capacity, and the remaining 90 - any optical guidance system for the tanks.

The black - the mechanism is a full copy of the Austrian Imco.

Is that clear - all wonderful wonderful! This is a copy of the American Scripto, serialized in 60 years! I just did not understand that it is the Soviet lighter, it was too solidly done! But then he saw the stamp "PMZ" and unusual for the United States drawing, I realized that this is our lighter :) Regarding the figure: in the script is almost always inserted or some pattern or advertising. "What we are worse than the Americans?" - Apparently thought in KB PMZ, and set clear slaydik with a photo of the monument to Peter the Great in St. Petersburg.

Made very soundly. But unlike Scripto , from the Soviet no windbreaks.

Were also met 3 "Copanca" WWII. 25 bucks apiece. First oochen cute!

And, of course, can not do without the Chinese! Chinese a lot, and good to be a lot lighter! 2 large-quasi-Zippo:

And finally took the $ 2 bonus - a set of Indians in the box. 2 p. 20 kopecks., Moscow factory toys "Progress" :)

We have the market called "Field of Dreams." Today, once again convinced why :)

Theoretically - gas lighter 60s can act up with a high probability. Indeed, gas lighters must be kept in the body high blood pressure. Need sealing. Rubber. Which over time to crack.

That Fueled gasoline scripts - it becomes clear how 40-year-old lighters remained sealed screw-cap with a rubber seal on the bottom of the case.

Check Script. Flows. Rubber cracked. I think that can be repaired by cutting out like rubber seal. How else will talk about it in more detail.

Once again I apologize for the stupid question!

PS market "field of dreams" - a very cool market!)

ehhh, sorry that is leaking, but in any case, the gasket can be replaced by a home-made. In Thorens way too benzip just filled without any wool like, let's see what will happen with me, but I think there will be nothing to flow

yours_truly, the question is absolutely normal :) Due to the fact that the plastic casing Scripto transparent, their producer would be no sin there anything :) So stick inside the case was either advertising a particular product, or just a picture (a hunter with a gun, crown, the head legionary helmet ...), or any object: cubes dice airplane, fishing hook with bait-front sight ... Here in this - the dice. Take control over filling is unrealistic - they prolezut because both were placed into the housing during manufacture. I plan to in the near future to review this original lighters - Scripto VU-lighter. :)

Palladium-Joker, leakage of scripts - not so bad. She has problems with the ignition of the wick. Ignited by 15-20 times only when moistened profusely. Well take almost 50 years, sparking :)
